Jerry Alexander Holt

   BURLINGTON — Jerry Alexander Holt, 84 of 2637 Catherine Drive, Burlington, NC passed away at Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro at 8:57 pm on Saturday, September 6, 2014.

   A native of Alamance County, he was the husband of Iris M. Holt and the late Carolyn Ferebee Holt, his wife of 40 years. His parents were the late Benjamin B. Holt and the late Bessie Clark Holt.

   He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a retired employee of AT&T, a member of Graham Presbyterian Church where he served as a deacon and elder, and was a member of the Brotherhood Sunday School Class. He was also a Mason, a Shriner, a member of the Burlington Moose Lodge, Amran Fire Brigade, Life Line volunteer through the Pioneer Club, a member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity, the Wolf Pack Club, and served on the planning board for the City of Graham.

   In addition to his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Lisa C. Holt, Mary H. Browning and her husband Paul, and Jean H. Hoover and her husband Kurt, all of Graham; four grandchildren, Alex and Collin Hoover, Matthew Browning, and Jazmin Holt; one sister, Eunice Newlin, formerly of Haw River; two step-daughters, Tonya Hammond and her husband Jay of Lexington, SC and Leslie Roth and her husband Kyle of Raleigh; 5 step-grandchildren, Will, Nick, and Maddie Hammond, Morgan Roth, and Cory W. Browning; and numerous nieces and nephews.

   In addition to his first wife Carolyn and parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Cynthia Holt; six brothers,

   Bruce, Frank, Hal, Troy, Junius, and S. B. “Jack” Holt; and two sisters, Laura Mae Walls and Frances Allen.

   The family will receive friends at the Rich and Thompson Funeral Home and Crematory in Graham on Monday evening from 5:00 until 7:00 pm. At other times they will be at the residence.

   A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 am on Tuesday, September 9, 2014 at the Graham Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Steve Braswell. The Masonic Rights will be held at the gravesite immediately following the funeral service at Linwood Cemetery in Graham. The Thomas M. Holt Lodge #492 A.F. and A.M. will meet in emergent communication on Tuesday at the lodge at 9:30 a.m. for the purpose of conducting Masonic graveside rites.

   Memorials may be made to Graham Presbyterian Church, 216 West Hardin Street, Graham, NC 27353 or to the Hospice League of Alamance-Caswell, 918 Chapel Hill Road, Burlington, NC 27215.
