Virginia Roney Kernodle
October 12, 1926 ~ March 20, 2025 (age 98)

Virginia Dare Roney Kernodle, 98, of Burlington, NC, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 20, 2025.

Born on October 12, 1926, in Alamance County, Virginia was named after Virginia Dare, the first English child born in the American colonies. She was the devoted wife of the late Graham Somers Kernodle and the beloved daughter of the late Clyde Ruffin Roney and Nina Mae Faulkner Roney.

A dedicated homemaker, Virginia found great joy in caring for her family and her church community. She was a lifelong and active member of Union Ridge Church, where she was deeply involved in the Ella Fleming Sunday School Class, the Angie Crew Circle, the Golden Age Group, and as a children’s Sunday School teacher. She was known for her unwavering faith, kindness, and warm hospitality—traits reflected in the many lives she touched. Among her many talents, she was renowned for her delicious chocolate pie, a cherished treat among family and friends.

Virginia is survived by her son, Ronnie Kernodle, of the home; two granddaughters, Shelly Kernodle Thompson (Michael) and Shanna Kernodle Adkins (Kirk); daughter-in-law, Patricia Kernodle; four sisters, Doris Perry (Wayne), Shelby Aldridge, Nancy Whitfield, and Ann Boone (James); as well as several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her son Steve Ryan Kernodle; her brothers, James and Herbert Roney; her sisters, Betty Lou Cheek, Alene Christopher, and Becki Jarvis; her half-brothers, Curtis, Paul, Ralph, and Chesley Roney; and her half-sisters, Sarah Pickard and Pauline Caudle.

A funeral service will be held at Union Ridge Church on Tuesday, March 25, 2025, at 1:00 p.m., officiated by Rev. Dan Ficklin. The family will receive friends at the church from 12:00 p.m. until 1:00 p.m., prior to the service. Burial will follow at Union Ridge Church Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Union Ridge Church, 115 Altamahaw Union Ridge Road, Burlington, NC 27217.

Virginia’s love, faith, and legacy will live on in the hearts of those who knew and cherished her.
