W. Fred Nix 

    BURLINGTON — W. Fred Nix , formerly of 6202 Bethel Church Road, Gibsonville, NC passed away Saturday January 20, 2007 at Burlington Manor.

    Born August 11, 1917 in Edneyville, NC to the late Thomas C. and Eunice W. Nix . He was raised in Monticello, NC and attended Monticello High School.

During W.W. II, he was a First Class Machinist for the Norfork Navy Yard in Norfork, VA. One of his jobs was to help build the USS Battleship Alabama.

After the war, he became a farmer and was employed by Sears-Roebuck & Co. in Greensboro for 37 years until his retirement. Fred  was a member and former chairman of the Board of Deacons of Bethel Presbyterian Church in McLeansville. He was a Master Mason in the Tobasco Lodge # 271 for 30 years, a member of the Scottish Rite, Valley of Greensboro and a Patron in the Order of the Eastern Star. He was the former Chairman of the Bethel-Brightwood Community Appearance Committee that he helped organize. Fred  was also a former Explorer Scout Master in McLeansville.

    Mr. Nix  was married to the late Nellie Summers Nix  for 59 years, prior to her death and was the father of three children, John W. Nix and wife Natashia of Elon; the late Ann Nix Barber and Jerry S. Nix of Gibsonville; 5 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren; 2 sisters, the late Jeanette Nix  Mitchell and Virginia Nix  Garret of Graham.

    Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday January 23, 2007 at the Bethel Presbyterian Church by Dr. Benjamin Williams . Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Mr. Nix  will remain at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory until being taken to the church to lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service.

The family will receive friends at Lowe Funeral Home from 6-8 PM Monday and at other times, the home of Jerry Nix , 439 Brightwood Church Road,
Gibsonville.
    Memorials may be made to the Session House Fund; c/o Bethel Presbyterian Church, 300 Knox Road McLeansville, NC 27301.
