Vivian Elizabeth Wicker May
BURLINGTON – Vivian Elizabeth Wicker May, 83 passed away Sunday, April 15th, 2018 at Liberty Commons.
She was born on June 1, 1934 in Guilford County to the late Jesse Vance Hubert Wicker and Gaynelle Zimmerman Wicker.
Vivian attended Elon University and was a member of Gibsonville Christian Church.
At the age of 26, Vivian was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis and began a decline in health and dexterity. She was cared for by her then husband, Daniel and later by other members of the family and caregivers. She lived in the home of Jeff and Shirley May until 5 years ago.
Many hundreds of people have been influenced by the courage, humility, grace, and contentment she displayed in dealing with her disease. Many came to visit her out of pity and soon realized that she was stronger than all of us. Her tremendous faith in the Lord was the driving force behind her attitude.
Even after being a quadriplegic for several decades, she realized she would not have to look far to find someone else worse off than she was. She was truly a remarkable woman and those of us fortunate enough to have experienced her are better off for it. She will be truly missed, but not forgotten.
She is survived by her daughter, Vicki May Holmes and husband Terry, her son, Jeffrey May, Sr. and wife Shirley; grandchildren, Jared Holmes (Katie), Robert May (Jennifer), Michael Holmes (Chelsea), Carrie May, Andrew May, and Jeffrey May, Jr.; great grandchildren, Brantley Holmes and Kennedy Holmes; and her loving sister, Bernice Wicker Emmons.
Special thanks to Sharon McBroom, Annie Tinnin, Sheila Long, and the staffs of Liberty Commons and Hospice of Alamance County for all the faithful years giving care to Mom.
Thanks also to the countless family and friends who loyally visited Mom to the end of her journey on this earth.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to The National MS Society or to Hospice of Alamance County.
The family will be having a life celebration service on June 2nd at 11 a.m. at Westside Fellowship in Elon, NC.
