Roger Dean "Rickey" Stratton
GREENSBORO — Roger Dean "Rickey" Stratton, 69, of 2101 Red Forrest Road, died Saturday, Dec. 20, 2008, at 3:57 a.m. at Moses Cone Hospital.
A graduate of Wake Forest University, he loved to draw, fish, paint, build scale versions of boats and train sets, and collect old records and stamps. He was a member of Parkway Baptist Church and served in the U.S. National Guard. He took over Stratton Flooring after the retirement of his father.
Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Linda Michael Stratton, of the home; sons, Marshall Brian Stratton and wife, Khristin, of Summerfield, Matthew Alan Stratton and wife, Crystal, of Archdale, and Michael Ryan Stratton and wife, Linda, of Greensboro; grandchildren, Camden, Gibson, Aidan and Mallory Stratton, all of Summerfield, Danielle and Abigail Stratton, both of Greensboro, and Lilly Stratton, of Archdale; a sister, Sherrill Stratton Pennell and husband, Ray, of Cherryville; nieces, Rene Willkie and husband, Rodney, and Anita Gail Hatker and husband, Jay; uncles, Harry Sharpe and Tom Sharpe, both of Graham, Tony Stratton, of Ruffin, and Gordan Stratton, of Eden; aunts, Myrtle Nelson and Ruby McGuire, both of Eden; a father-in-law, Lonnie Michael; sistersin-law, Pam Michael and Joan Smith and husband, Gerald; special cousins, Curtis Isley and wife, Dianne, Malcolm Stratton and wife, Carol, and Ester Griffin; special friends, Frances and Dwight Fickling, Chris and Gary Goettsch, and Joe and Barbara Roberts.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Melvin Reaves and Martha Sharpe Stratton; a sister and brother-in-law, Ginger Gail Stratton and John D. Somers; and a mother-in-law, Bertie Rhudy Michael.
The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2008, at Eastlawn Baptist Church. The Rev. Larry Farrell, the Rev. Steve Joyner and the Rev. Bob Stephenson will be officiating. Burial will follow in Alamance Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Dec. 22, 2008, at the McClure Funeral Home in Graham.
