Martha Ellen Sharpe Stratton


    CHERRYVILLE — Martha Ellen Sharpe Stratton, 94, of Flay Road, formerly of Burlington, died Saturday, April 26 at Carolina Care Center.
    She was born Nov. 7, 1913, in Alamance County, a daughter of the late Judge Washington and Mamie Shoffner Sharpe. Mrs. Stratton was retired from Kayser-Roth. A member of Eastlawn Baptist Church in Graham, she attended North Brook Baptist Church. She was a former Sunday School teacher, G.A. leader and Acteen leader.
    In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin Reeves Stratton, in 2002; daughter, Ginger Gail Stratton Somers and son-in-law, John Somers; brothers Marvin and J.W. Sharpe; and sisters, Vita Isley and Ruth Shoemaker.
    Survivors include her son, Roger Dean Stratton and wife, Linda, of Greensboro; daughter, Sherrill Pennell and husband, the Rev. Ray Pennell, of Cherryville; five grandchildren, Brian Stratton, Alan Stratton, Ryan Stratton, Anita Hatker and Rene Wike; and greatgrandchildren, Camden, Gibson, Aidan, Mallory, Lilly, Danielle and Abigail Stratton and Justin and Bryson Wike.
    There will be a memorial service at North Brook Baptist Church in Cherryville on Monday, April 28 at 7:30 p.m. with visitation at the church from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Funeral services will be held at Eastlawn Baptist Church in Burlington on Wednesday, April 30 at 3 p.m. with the Rev. Steve Joyner and Chaplin Larry Farrell officiating. The family will receive friends Tuesday, April 29 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at McClure Funeral Home in Graham. Burial will be in Alamance Memorial Park in Burlington.
    Memorials may be made to North Brook Baptist Church Fellowship Center Fund, 7421 Flay Road, Cherryville, N.C. 28021.
