Mrs. Lorene S. Barber
GIBSONVILLE — Mrs. Lorene S. Barber, 65, of 6500 Osceola-Ossipee Road, died Thursday, June 15, 2000, at the Hospice Home after nine months of failing
health, one month critical.
A native of Alamance County, she was the wife of Mr. Melvin “Bud” Barber, who survives, and the daughter of Mr. Ralph Staley Sutton, who survives, and the late Mrs. Claudie Lorene Scott Sutton. She was formerly employed with Holt Hosiery and was a member of Bethlehem Christian Church.
Survivors other than her husband and father include two daughters, Mrs. Angela Brame of Browns Summit and Mrs. Deborah Satterfield of Elon College; a sister, Mrs. Geraldine Brown of Gibsonville; two brothers, Mr. Staley “Bud” Sutton of Gibsonville and Mr. Donald Sutton of Rock Hill, S.C.; and three grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday at Bethlehem Christian Church by the Rev. Dave Gilbert, pastor, the Rev. C. Allen Myers III of Apple’s Chapel Christian Church and the Rev. David Jackson of Bethel Baptist Church. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will be in Lakeview Memorial Park in Greensboro.
The family will be at Lowe Funeral Home from 7 to 9 this evening and at other times at the home.

Frances Barber
   GIBSONVILLE — Mrs. Frances Whitfield Barber, age 78, of 6500 Osceola-Ossipee Road, died Thursday, Dec. 13, 2012, at the Hospice Home after several months of failing health.

   Born in Person County, she was the daughter of the late Lester Ezra Whitfield and the late Maggie Mae Long Whitfield and was married to Melvin “Bud” Barber, who survives.

Frances worked for May Hosiery Mill and then J. Spencer Love for many years before opening Frances Beauty Shop and was the owner and operator until her retirement. She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Ladies Sunday School Class.

   Mrs. Barber is survived by her husband of the home; three daughters, Trudy Mc-Cormick and her husband, Steve, of Randleman, N.C., Pamela Brown and her husband, Shelton, of Graham, and Lisa Thomas and her husband, John, of Elon; a son, Harry L. Windsor Jr. and his wife, Christie, of Greensboro; two stepdaughters, Debbie Satterfield, of Elon, and Angie Brame and her husband, David, of Browns Summit; a stepson, Derek Roach, of Greensboro; 11 grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; six sisters, Lorraine (J.C.) Matkins of Elon, Beatrice Jenkins, of Burlington, Katye Newton, of Burlington, Jean Walker, of Roxboro, Sadie Roach, of Gibsonville and Linda (Woody) Allen, of Elon; two brothers, Herbert (Nancy) Whitfield, of Burlington, and Herman (Carol) Whitfield, of Haw River; and two sisters-in-law, Mary Lou Whitfield and Gloria Whitfield.

She was preceded in death by her former husbands, Harry L. Windsor Sr. and William “Bill” Roach; an infant son, Gary Dean Windsor; sisters, Mae Lowe and Doris Coleman; brothers, Raymond Whitfield and Melvin Whitfield; and a half-sister, Ethel Whitfield.

   The funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 17, 2012, at Bethel Baptist Church by the Revs. David Jackson, Norman Fargis and Scott London. Interment will follow at Pine Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 Sunday evening at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory and other times at the residence.

   Mrs. Barber’s family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Alamance Regional Cancer Center and to the nurses and caregivers at the Hospice Home for the loving care and kindness given to Frances during her battle with cancer.
