Mrs. Nita Alice Underwood Summers

BURLINGTON — Mrs. Nita Alice Underwood Summers, 85, of 555 Elmira St., died Sunday, Oct. 15, 2000, at Alamance Regional Medical Center after five years of failing health.

A native of Guilford County, she was the wife of the late Mr. Albert Lee Summers, and the daughter of Mr. John Wesley Underwood and Mrs. Murkdeese Apple Underwood, both deceased. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include four daughters, Mrs. Nancy Shepherd of Elon College, Mrs. Betty Lou Williams and Mrs. Pam Atkinson, both of Burlington, and Mrs. Patricia “Pat” Hill of Glen Raven; three sisters, Miss Willie Underwood of Burlington, Mrs. Mary Mitchell and Mrs. Bobbie King, both of Gibsonville; three brothers, Mr. Woodrow Underwood of Whitsett, Mr. Robert Underwood of Burlington and Mr. Charlie Underwood of Browns-Summit; 17 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Mr. Larry “Buddy” Summers; and five sisters and brothers.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Bethlehem Christian Church cemetery by the Rev. Dave Gilbert, pastor of the church.
The family will be at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory from 6 to 8 this evening, and at other times at the home.3, Mrs. Nita Alice Underwood Summers
