Joretta Jean Tysor
BURLINGTON — Joretta Jean Tysor, 85, of Harden Street, died Monday, May 9, 2016, at her home.
Born in the old Farmville community of Chatham County, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Waters Tysor and Mildred Burns Tysor.
She was educated in Burlington public schools and graduated from Graham High School. She completed the nursing curriculum at NC Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem, NC, graduating as a Registered Nurse in 1953.
Joretta loved children and worked as a Pediatric Nurse for nearly 50 years. She served at Children’s Hospital in Washington, DC and later moved back to North Carolina and completed her career at Duke University Hospital Pediatrics until her retirement.
She was married in 1953 to John Cullom Tysor and lived in Raleigh, NC, Washington DC, Elon, NC and Burlington, NC, and raised two sons.
She was predeceased by her husband, John Cullom Tysor; and daughter, Beverly Jean Tysor.
Surviving are two sons, Curtis Reid Tysor and wife Sue Ann Belskie Tysor of Hightowers, NC in Caswell County and Michael James Tysor and wife Dr. Joanna Simons Tysor of Bear Creek, NC; six grandchildren, Carolyn Susannah Tysor, Elizabeth Hannah Tysor, Joseph Oren Tysor, USMC Cpl. Daniel L. Tysor, Rebecca Whitney Tysor and Faith Christine Tysor; two sisters, Dorene Reynolds Brotherton Lubore Tysor of Raleigh and Patricia Ockenhouse of Burlington; and one brother, Barnie Tysor of Graham.
A funeral service will be conducted in the Rich & Thompson Chapel in Graham on Saturday, May 14, 2016, at 2 p.m. by the Rev. Danny Cubino with burial in the May’s Chapel Baptist Church cemetery, Bear Creek, NC, following the service. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 1 to 2 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
