BURLINGTON - David Lynn Mitchell, 61, of Garden Road, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Friday, July 27, 2012, at his residence. He was born in Alamance County to the late James Donald and Norma Whitesell Mitchell and was married for 42 years to Joy Lamb Mitchell who survives. David was a very active member of Word of Life Family Church and was formerly employed by Carolina Nissan. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving for 18 years, obtaining the rank of Staff Sergeant and leaving service as a disabled veteran. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother.
He is survived by his wife of the home; daughter, Jennifer (Michael) Vaughn of Graham; son, James (Simoni) Mitchell of Westport, Conn.; four grandchildren; and a brother, Jon (Wanda) Mitchell of Burlington.
The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at Word of Life by Pastor Rich Fennelle with interment to follow in Pine Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Monday prior to the service at the church and other times at the residence.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Word of Life c/o The Children's Center, 2761 Longpine Rd., Burlington, NC 27215.
