BURLINGTON — Mr. Charlie A. Rice Sr., 74, of 729 Indian Springs Road, died at 2:45 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 23, 2001, at his home.

Mr. Rice was a member of the Baynes Baptist Church where in the past he served on the building committee and the church recreation committee working with ball teams. He was currently serving as a trustee of the church. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and was a member of the Jerico Hunt Club. He owned and operated Rice’s Ball Field and was an avid sportsman. He participated in the Senior Olympics where he won several ribbons.

Survivors include two daughters, Ms. Kristie Rice Apple of Burlington and Miss Janie L. Rice of Greensboro; four sons, Dean Rice of Dunn, Tim Rice and wife, Cindy, of Burlington, Lynn Rice of Raleigh, and Charlie A. “Chuck” Rice Jr. and wife, Amy, of Burlington; seven grandchildren; and four sisters, Mrs. Edna McAdams and Mrs. Thelma Farrington, both of Burlington, Mrs. Lena Mahaley of Yanceyville and Mrs. Nellie Mahaley of Providence.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James Franklin Rice and Ossie Massey Rice.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at Baynes Baptist Church by the Rev. Don Clement, the Rev. Larry McCarty, and the Rev. James McKinney.

Burial will be in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the McClure Funeral Home in Burlington from 6 to 8 Wednesday evening, and at other times at the home of a son, Tim Rice, 470 Rascoe Dameron Road, Burlington. 3, Mr. Charlie A. Rice Sr.
