Mrs. Ruby Mae Robertson Joyce
MADISON — Mrs. Ruby Mae Robertson Joyce , 90, of 3200 N. Elm St., Greensboro, formerly of Madison, died April 26, 2005, at Moses Cone Memorial Hospital.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. today, April 28, 2005, at Mt. Hermon United Methodist Church, 8011 N.C. 704, Madison. Burial will follow at Woodland Cemetery in Madison.
Ruby  was born in Stokes County, Sept. 19, 1914, to Jesse Ben Robertson  and Maude Brown Robertson . Following a 10-year courtship that blossomed from a meeting on the school bus, she married Louis Hassel Joyce  in 1938. She was a member of the first graduating class at Sandy Ridge High School and attended King’s Business College in Winston-Salem. Ruby  and Louis owned and operated Joyce  Furniture Company in Madison from 1952 to 1983. Ruby  joined Mt. Hermon United Methodist Church in 1947. There she served as the church pianist for more than 50 years. She was a member and teacher of the Ladies’ Bible class, a lifetime member and former president of the United Methodist Women, and a member of the church’s Administrative Board.
Ruby  could always be found sharing her two greatest passions in life, music and tending to her flowers, with family and friends. She also enjoyed collecting stamps, coins, dolls, and representing Rose Marie Cosmetics. Everyone who knew Ruby  knew her lasting dedication to her family and church. Her generosity, kindness, and compassion were an inspiration to everyone she met.
Ruby’s  family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff at Morningview Assisted Living and to her caregivers for their kindness and thoughtfulness during her recent illness.
Ruby  was predeceased by her parents; stepmother, Dulcie Hundley Robertson ; brothers, George Robertson  and Curtis Robertson ; a half brother, Douglas Robertson ; and her son, Barry Joyce .
In addition to her loving husband, Louis, Ruby  is survived by her sister, Wilmoth Ferguson; half sister, Marquita Duncan (Arnold); stepbrother, Sanford Hundley; daughters, Kaye Cook (Wayne) and Donna Somers; daughter-in-law, Diane Joyce ; grandchildren, Tonya Hudy (Ricky), Brian Joyce  (Irene), and Jennifer Joyce ; greatgrandson, Marc Hudy (Brandi); and great-great-granddaughter, Lexi.
Memorials may be made to Mt. Hermon United Methodist Church or to The Barry L. Joyce  Local Cancer Support Fund, 141 St. Andrews Drive, Stoneville, N.C. 27048.
