STONEVILLE — Mr. Barry Louis Joyce, 55, of 141 St. Andrews Drive, died Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2001, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Madison United Methodist Church, 110 W. Academy St., Madison, N.C. Burial will follow at Woodland Cemetery in Madison. Barry was born in Reidsville to Louis and Ruby Joyce of Madison. He was educated at Madison Mayodan High School and earned a bachelor of science degree from Greensboro College. Following a short stint as an auditor for the U.S. Navy in Norfolk, Va., Barry returned to Madison to serve as vice president at Joyce Furniture Co., and most recently owned and operated Fuzzy’s Bar-B-Que. Barry Joyce will always be remembered as a man of extraordinary compassion, limitless generosity and unconditional love for his family and friends. Above all else, he enjoyed vacations to the beach, planning holidays, playing golf and fishing. Barry was an active member of Madison United Methodist Church. He served as treasurer and chairman of the Administrative Board and played a leading role in planning the development of the church’s new education wing. He will also be remembered for his civic contributions. Barry served as a member of the Western Rockingham Chamber of Commerce, the Madison Downtown Merchants Association, the Board of Directors of Deep Springs Country Club, and was instrumental in organizing and developing the Downtown Madison Beautification Committee. His corporate accomplishments earned the respect of his peers as evidenced by his appointment to the Board of Directors of First National Bank Southeast. Barry was also an active member of the North Carolina Restaurant Association. Most importantly, he will be missed by everyone who knew him as a loving husband, proud father and steadfast friend. Survivors include his wife, Diane Philo Joyce; son, Brian Louis Joyce of Winston-Salem; daughter, Jennifer Merrell Joyce of Greensboro; parents, Louis and Ruby Robertson Joyce of Madison; sisters, Kaye Cook and husband, Wayne, both of Stoneville, and Donna Patricia Somers of Burlington; niece, Tonya Hudy, her husband, Ricky, and son, Mark; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Steve and Molly Philo, and their son, Len, his wife, Jennifer, and their children, Steven and Kathleen. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 this evening at Colonial Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Barry L.
