OBITUARIES Irene  Troxler Howerton
 
    GIBSONVILLE — Irene  Troxler Howerton , age 89, of 4074 Gilliam Church Road, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 15, 2006 at the Hospice Home. She was a native of Alamance County, and the wife of Garland Daniel Howerton , who survives.

    Irene  farmed with her husband and was a wonderful wife and mother for over 66 years. She was a lifetime member of Shiloh United Methodist Church and a member of the Willing Workers Sunday school class. Irene  enjoyed cooking, gardening, quilting and crocheting. She was a kind, gentle, soft spoken lady who always greeted people with a smile. The family would like to express their thanks to those who cared for her at White Oak Manor for two years and the Hospice Home for their special care over the past month.
    
Survivors include her husband, Garland Daniel Howerton  of the home; daughters and sons-in-law, Etta Jeanette H. Newton and her husband, Darrell, Carolyn H. Fitch and her husband, Gerald "Doc," both of Gibsonville, Debbie H. Black and her husband, Charles, of Kimesville and Marcie Howerton  of Graham; sons and daughtersin-law, Garland F. "Buster" Howerton  and his wife, Dot, and Edgar Howerton  and his wife, Louise, both of Gibsonvllle; 14 grandchildren; and 14 greatgrandchildren; sisters and brother-in-law, Laura Lee Wade and her husband, Robert, and Mary Wade, both of Gibsonville; many nieces and nephews.

    She was preceded in death by her daughter, Gladys Marie Howerton ; parents, Robert Banks and Daisy Etta Smithey Troxler; four sisters; and nine brothers.

    The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, January 18, 2006 at 2 p.m. at Shiloh United Methodist Church by the Rev. R. Richard Dawson, O.S.L., and the burial will follow in the church cemetery.

    The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 this evening at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory, and other times at the home. All the family members are requested to gather in the church fellowship hall at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday prior to the service.
