 GIBSONVILLE — Garland Daniel Howerton, age 98, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, April 7, 2015. He was a native of Guilford County and the husband of the late Irene Troxler Howerton.
 
 Garland retired after 40 years from Burlington Industries, Williamsburg Plant and was a farmer in the community. He was a longtime member of Shiloh United Methodist Church serving as an honorary trustee and a member of the AWT at the church. Garland was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.
 
 Survivors include his daughters, Carolyn Fitch and husband, Gerald of Gibsonville and Marcie Howerton of Burlington and Debbie Black and husband, Charles of Kimesville; son, Edker B. Howerton and wife, Louise of Gibsonville; 14 grandchildren, 23 greatgrandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, Edker Weldon and Harriett Jeanette Gerringer Howerton; daughters, Etta Jeanette Newton and Gladys Marie Howerton; son, Garland Francis Howerton and a sister, Bessie Lamar; brothers, Billy, Paul, Neal, Vance, Wilson and L.M. Howerton.
 
 The Howerton family would like to thank the nurses and staff of Hospice and Palliative Care of Alamance-Caswell and Burlington Manor for their kind and compassionate care for Garland. A special thank you to dad’s roommate, David Jones, for his friendship.
 
 A funeral service will be held on Friday, April 10, 2015, at 11 a.m. at Shiloh United Methodist Church by the Rev. Hyung S. Kim and the burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, April 9, 2015, at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory and other times at the home of his son, Edker Howerton.
 
 The family is asked to gather in the church fellowship hall prior to the service. The church will provide refreshments for the family and friends following the committal service, also in the fellowship hall.
 
 Memorials may be made to Shiloh United Methodist Church, c/o the ATW, 4718 NC Hwy 87 North, Gibsonville, NC 27249; and, Hospice and Palliative Care of Alamance-Caswell, 914 Chapel Hill Road, Burlington, NC 27215.
