Garland F. "Buster" Howerton
GIBSONVILLE — Garland F. "Buster" Howerton, age 65, of Gilliam Church Road, passed away on Sunday, November 30, 2008. He was a native of Alamance County, and the husband of 41 years to Dorothy Murray Howerton, who survives.
Garland retired after 41 years from Piedmont Metals. He was a member of Shiloh United Methodist Church and a former member of the choir. Garland was a U.S. Army veteran serving in Germany. He was an avid fisherman and hunter. Garland enjoyed following NASCAR racing and his favorite driver was Jeff Gordon.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Murray Howerton of the home; daughters and sons-in-law, Deborah and Rick Troxler of Gibsonville, Linda Dorene and Cecil Whitlow of Burlington; son and daughterin-law, Matthew and Wendy Howerton of Gibsonville; grandchildren, Eddie Thompson, Hope Troxler and Michael Howerton; four stepgrandchildren; father, Garland Daniel Howerton of Gibsonville; sisters and brothers-in-law, Etta Jeanette and Darrell Newton, Carolyn and Gerald Fitch and Marcie Howerton, all of Gibsonville, Debbie and Charles Black of Kimesville; brother and sister-in-law, Edgar B. and Louise Howerton of Gibsonville. He was preceded in death by his mother, Irene Troxler Howerton; and a sister, Gladys Marie Howerton.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, December 3, 2008 at 2 p.m. at the Shiloh United Methodist Church cemetery by the Rev. David M. Stark. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 p.m. on Tuesday at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory, and other times at the home.
