Hazel Neal Reynolds
ELON — Mrs. Hazel Neal Reynolds of 102 Franz Court, Elon, N.C., widow of Rembert James Reynolds , died on Friday, February 1, 2008. Hazel , the only child of Herbert Henry Neal and Margaret Ellen Moses Neal , was born on March 22, 1920, in Morganton, North Carolina.
She graduated from Greensboro College and was a member of ADK, honorary teaching society. After graduation she was employed briefly by Jefferson Life Insurance Company. She married Rembert James Reynolds from Great Falls, South Carolina on December 25, 1941, at her parent’s home.
Mrs. Reynolds began her beloved vocation in the Guilford County school system teaching second grade and continued her career in the Burlington City School system. In 1974, she moved with her husband to Orangeburg, South Carolina and taught second grade at Orangeburg Prep for 14 years. She was the consummate educator and counselor and enjoyed reconnecting with her students even after her retirement. Her natural love for young children made her a wonderful grandmother. She enjoyed doing needlepoint, playing bridge, buying clothes and being a member of The Hoe and Hope Garden Club. The Reynolds traveled across the United States and Europe after they retired. She was a member of St. Andrews United Methodist Church in Orangeburg, until she relocated to live with her daughter in Elon, North Carolina. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Elon.
Mrs. Reynolds is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Rembert Neal Reynolds and Mary Jane Reynolds of Columbia, South Carolina; her daughter and son-in-law, Margaret Ann Reynolds Waddell and James Brock Waddell, Elon, North Carolina; and her grandsons, Rembert Neal Reynolds and his wife, Katherine Temple Reynolds , of New York, John Luke Reynolds of Columbia, South Carolina, and Nathaniel Long Reynolds of Washington, D.C.
A memorial service will be held at First United Methodist Church of Elon on Saturday, February 2, 2008 at 2 p.m. with a private internment at Forest Lawn Cemetery, Greensboro, North Carolina. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
