Wilma Byrd Boone, 84, of Burlington, died Sunday, February 17, 2019 at the Homeplace of Burlington.
A native of Caswell County, Mrs. Boone was the wife of William Holt Boone, who survives, and the daughter of Drewey Allen Byrd and Vera Walker Byrd, both deceased.
Wilma retired from the Alamance County School System. She received a secretarial degree from the Women’s College of Greensboro. Wilma was a member of Staley Memorial Baptist Church and charter member of the First Ladies Civitan Club.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Boone is survived by one son, Allen Ralph Boone and his wife, Ann, of Burlington; two grandchildren, Brandy Whittaker and her husband, Billy, and Bryan Boone; a greatgranddaughter, Riley Whittaker; one sister, Margaret Byrd of Winston-Salem and one brother, Levi Byrd of Pittsboro.
She was preceded in death by her son, Fred Holt Boone; two sisters, Edna Blanche Byrd, Clara Byrd Pope and four brothers, Roy, Wilbert, Hassel and Harry Byrd.
The family will receive friends Tuesday evening, from 6:00 until 8:00 at Rich and Thompson Funeral Service in Burlington.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday, February 20, 2019 at 11:00 AM in the Rich and Thompson Chapel in Burlington. Officiating will be the Rev. Bennie Smith. Interment will follow in the mausoleum at Alamance Memorial Park.
The family would like to thank the staff at Homeplace of Burlington and Hospice for the wonderful care given to Mrs. Boone
