Herman "Sam" Woodrow Yarbrough
ELON — Mr. Herman "Sam" Woodrow Yarbrough , 85, of Blakey Hall, 501 North Manning Avenue, Elon, died at Alamance Regional Medical Center on Wednesday, May 16, 2007 at 7:20 p.m. following three days of critical illness.
A native of Caswell County, he was the husband of the late Roan Warren Yarbrough , and the son of Reuben Yarbrough and Lizzie Hampton Long Yarbrough , both deceased. He was a veteran of World War II and the Maintenance Director for the Burlington City Schools. He was a member of Piedmont Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include two sons, Warren D. Yarbrough and Wayne Yarbrough ; three grandchildren, O’Brian Jones, Natalie Yarbrough Wright, and Leigh Yarbrough ; two brothers, Edwin E. Yarbrough and Jerry Yarbrough ; and two sisters, Christine Gentry and Doris Brooks.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Jane Jones; and three sisters, Alene White, Lindy Yarbrough , and Mary Anderson.
The funeral will be conducted at the First Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church on Saturday, May 19, 2007 at 10:30 a.m. by the Rev. Tim Robinson. Burial will follow in Pine Hill Cemetery.
The body will be taken to the church to lie in state at 9 a.m. The family will receive friends at the church from 9:30 until 10:30 a.m. prior to the service, and at other times they will be at the residence of Wayne Yarbrough , 607 Edinburgh Court, Burlington, N.C.
Memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Alamance-Caswell, 914 Chapel Hill Road, Burlington, N.C. 27215.
