Gary Faucette Massey Obituary

Gary Faucette Massey, 74, of Burlington, NC, passed away Monday, January 19, 2026, at Alamance Regional Medical Center.

A native of Alamance County, Gary was the beloved husband of Mary Massey, who survives. He was the son of the late Dewey Faucette Massey and Frances Allison Massey.

Gary proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps, serving as a Sergeant Military Police. Following his military service, he devoted more than 30 years to law enforcement with the Alamance County Sheriff’s Department, beginning his career as a patrol officer and faithfully serving in every rank until becoming Sheriff. He retired with honor and distinction. In recognition of his lifetime of public service and extraordinary contributions to the state and community, Gary was awarded the North Carolina Long Leaf Pine Award, the highest honor bestowed by the Governor of North Carolina, recognizing exemplary service and lasting impact.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and spending time outdoors on his farm. Gary especially cherished teaching his sons to hunt, fish, and shoot, passing along both practical skills and a deep respect for safety, discipline, and the outdoors. He also found great fulfillment in sharing his knowledge through teaching firearms, researching genealogy, and reading about war history.

In addition to his wife, survivors include three sons: Chuck Seay (Angela), Jeremy Massey (Laina), and Jason Massey; four grandchildren: Jack Seay, Stella Seay, Hunter Massey, and Bonnie Massey; and two sisters: Sherry Massey Durham (Frankie) and Karen Massey Hargrove, along with several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at Rich & Thompson Funeral Home in Graham on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m.

A graveside service will be held at Long’s Chapel Cemetery on Thursday, January 22, 2026, at 11:00 a.m.

Gary will be remembered for his unwavering sense of duty, quiet strength, and deep love for his family, leaving a legacy of service, integrity, and faithfulness that will endure for generations. 261, Gary Faucette Massey
