John C. Matkins Jr.
 

 
 BURLINGTON — John Calvin “J.C.” Matkins, Jr., 92, went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, November 4, 2015, at Alamance Regional Medical Center. He was born in Alamance County on July 10, 1923, to the late John Calvin and Ora Gilliam Matkins Sr. and was the husband of the late LaMonna Brown Matkins and the late Lorraine Gerringer Matkins.
 
 John was a lifetime member of Shallow Ford Christian Church where he served as Sunday School Teacher and Superintendent, Deacon, Trustee and was a member of the choir. He enjoyed spending his free time hunting, gardening and playing golf.
 
 He is survived by his sons, James A. “Jim” Matkins of Burlington, John E. Matkins and wife Nettie of Columbia, SC; grandchildren, Lisa Cerak and husband John, Jeff Matkins, John T. “Tim” Hensley and wife Teresa, Patrick Ryan and wife Angela, Ronald A. “Andy” and wife Dawn; great-grandchildren, Brooke and Mallory Cerak, Tara, Christopher, Taylor, Tyler, Mati and Gracie Hensley; four great-great-grandchildren; brother, Joseph F. Matkins and wife Bernice; sister, Mildred Troxler Garrison and husband William “Bill”; sonin-law, Ronnie Hensley and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife, LaMonna Brown Matkins and Lorraine Gerringer Matkins; daughter, Sandra Matkins Hensley; his parents; brother, George W. Matkins and a sister-in-law, Patsy Matkins.
 
 The funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, November 8, 2015, at Shallow Ford Christian Church by Pastor Steve Regan with interment to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 3-5 p.m. on Saturday at Lowe Funeral Home & Crematory and other times at the residence.
 
 Memorials may be made to Shallow Ford Christian Church Cemetery Fund, 1263 Shallowford Church Rd., Elon, NC 27244.
