Sandra Matkins Hensley
   BURLINGTON — Sandra Matkins Hensley, 69, of Burlington, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, Sept. 21, 2013, at her residence surrounded by her family. She was born in Alamance County to John Calvin “J.C.” and the late Lamonna Brown Matkins and was married for 53 years to Ronnie Lee Hensley, who survives. Mrs. Hensley was a schoolteacher for 35 years, teaching in Alamance County Schools and Blessed Sacrament Catholic School, then retiring from the Alamance-Burlington School System. She was a member of Shallow Ford Christian Church where she had served as Sunday School Teacher, Trustee, Treasurer and sang in the choir.

   She is survived by her husband of the home; sons, John Timothy “Tim” and Teresa Hensley of Burlington, Patrick Ryan and Angela Hensley of Midland, Texas, Ronald Andrew “Andy” and Dawn Hensley of Yanceyville; grandchildren, Tara, Christopher, Taylor, Tyler, Mati and Gracie Hensley; great grandchildren, Kaylie and Kenlie Matkins; step grandchildren, Tori and Haley Adams; step great grandson,

   Oscar Adams; brothers, James A. “Jim” Matkins of Burlington, John E. and Nettie Matkins of Columbia, S.C., and father and stepmother, John Calvin “J.C.” and Lorrain Gerringer Matkins of Elon.

   The funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday at Shallow Ford Christian Church by the Rev. Dr. Sue Perry and the Rev. Nora Foust with interment to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 Monday evening at Lowe Funeral Home & Crematory and other times at the residence.

   Memorials may be made to Shallow Ford Christian Church Cemetery Fund, 1263 Shallowford Church Road, Elon, NC 27244.
