RAMSEUR— Carl Leslie Chilton, 89, of 6315 Chilton Road, went to be with Jesus on Thursday, April 28, 2005, at Randolph Hospital in Asheboro, after residing at Universal Health Care in Ramseur for a short time.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Maple Springs United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Jack Hileman and Dr. Ron Wachs. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Mr. Chilton was born on Feb. 2, 1916, in Stokes County. He was the youngest and the last of nine children born to Betty and Everette Chilton. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Rosabell Flippin, Mary Stevens, Kate Poole Bolik and Lucy Joyce and by his brothers, Troy Chilton, Thomas Chilton, Arthur Chilton and Graham Chilton. He was a lifelong member of Maple Springs United Methodist Church, where he had been a member of the choir, the chairman of the Official Board, a trustee, in charge of the cemetery plots and a Sunday School teacher for over 50 years. Mr. Chilton married Loucilla Brady on March 17, 1944. He worked at Ramseur Furniture and farmed, both for a while. He raised tobacco, grain, pigs and chickens.
Survivors are his wife, Loucilla Brady Chilton of the home; daughters, Ronda Wagoner Whitesell and husband Norman of Gibsonville; grandson James Thomas Wagoner and his wife, Karen of McLeansville; great-grandchildren, James Dan Wagoner and Eric Thomas Wagoner; three step grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Loflin Funeral Home in Ramseur and other times at the residence and also at the home of his daughter, Ronda W. Whitesell, 4331 McIntyre Road, Gibsonville.
