Mr. Joseph Benjamin "Joe" Gaydon

    GRAHAM — Mr. Joseph Benjamin "Joe" Gaydon, 89, of 1134 S. Main St., died at 7:15 a.m. Tuesday, April 6, 2004, at the Alamance Health Care of Burlington after six months of failing health.

    A native of Lumpkin County, Ga., he was the husband of Opal Williams Gaydon, who survives, and the son of the late William Messer Gaydon and Francis Belle Burke Gaydon. He was retired from Burlington Industries Williamsburg Plant and also from Virginia Mills after 25 years of service.

He was a member of Bethany Presbyterian Church, and the Men’s Bible Sunday school class. He was also a member of the Alamance Seniors Golf Association.

    Survivors other than his wife of the home include a daughter, Betty G. Davis of Graham; a son, Bob J. Gaydon and wife, Lana, of Greensboro; two sisters, Clara Ferrell and Myna Lee Hammack, both of Burlington; two grandchildren, Leigh Sonkens of Salt Lake City, Utah and Kim Fox of Burlington; and four greatgrandchildren.

    He was preceded in death by two brothers, Millard Gaydon and Dillard Gaydon; and two grandchildren, Joseph Kurt Gaydon and Kimberly Gaydon.

    The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 8, 2004 at the McClure Funeral Home Chapel in Graham by the Rev. Norman Whitney, pastor of Bethany Presbyterian Church. Burial will be in Graham Memorial Park.

    The family will receive friends at the McClure Funeral Home in Graham from 6 to 8 this evening, and at other times at the home of Betty G. Davis, 713 Banks St., Graham, N.C. 27253.
