Mrs. Evelyn McAlister
MEBANE — Mrs. Evelyn Jones McAlister, age 88, formerly of Bason Road, passed away Friday, August 18, 2006, at the Presbyterian Home at Hawfields.
A native of Alamance County, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Y. and Ada Patterson Jones, and wife of the late Thurston Blease McAlister.
She was a member of Haw River Christian Church, where she taught Sunday school for many years. She owned and operated Faith Book Store for 25 years and was on the Board of Christian Booksellers Association for a number of years. Mrs. McAlister was instrumental in the founding of Alamance Christian School and served on the board for three years
She is survived by a son, Duffie E. and wife, Joyce McAlister, of Mebane; daughters, Betty Gooch and husband, Jimmy, of Burlington and Terry Lynn McAlister of Prospect Hill and Belinda Carter of Wilmington; 10 grandchildren; 12 greatgrandchildren and five greatgreat- grandchildren.
Preceding her in death was her husband; parents; four brothers, Luther Jones, Authur Jones, Jack Jones and John Jones; six sisters, Lula Brown, Ora Jones, Ollie Brown, Effie Workman, Blanche Thomasson and Ruth Wagner.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, August 20, 2006, at Haw River Christian Church by the Rev. Jim Rosser, and the Rev. George M. Phillips.
Interment will follow in Graham Memorial Park.
Mrs. McAlister will remain at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory until taken to the church to lie in state 30 minutes prior to the funeral service.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 this evening, and at other times at the home of Duffie McAlister, 3671 Bason Road, Mebane, N.C.
