Betty McAlister Gooch
BURLINGTON, N.C. — Betty McAlister Gooch, age 76, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Dec. 20, 2011. She was a native of Alamance County and the wife of 58 years to James H. “Jim” Gooch, who survives.
Betty and her husband, Jim, owned and operated Faith Book and Bridal at Cum Park Plaza for over 17 years. She attended Rex Hospital School of Nursing before raising her family. Betty was a member of Harvest Baptist Church and the Basics Sunday School Class. She always helped with crafts at Vacation Bible School and her hobbies included crafts and collecting sea shells. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother.
Survivors include her husband, Jim H. Gooch, of the home; sons, Michael Gooch and his wife Jodie of Charleston, S.C., Steve Gooch and his wife Wendy and Patrick Gooch and his wife Nikki, all of Burlington; grandchildren, Joy, Andrew, Bethany, Gabe, Olivia and Jaden Gooch; sisters, Terry McAlister of Southport, N.C. and Belinda Carter of Wilmington, N.C.; brother, Duffie McAlister and his wife Joyce, of Mebane.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Thurston B. and Evelyn Jones McAlister.
A service to celebrate her life will be conducted on Friday, Dec. 23, 2011 at 11 a.m. at Harvest Baptist Church by Pastor Larry Lamberth, assisted by Walter Webster, and the burial will follow at Graham Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 5 until 8 p.m. on Thursday at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory and at other times at the home.
