Joan McIntyre Barbee

Mrs. Joan McIntyre Barbee, 74, of 127 Meadowood Drive, Burlington went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, October 12, 2017. She died an unexpected death at Moses Cone Memorial Hospital.

A native of Burlington, NC, she was the wife of Dexter R. Barbee, Sr., who survives and the daughter of Ralph McIntyre and Maxine Phillips McIntyre, both deceased.

She was a longtime volunteer with Meals on Wheels of Alamance County. Joan was a member of Faith United Methodist Church where she was a member of the Administrative Council, the United Methodist Women, along with holding many other positions. She was very dedicated to God, her church and teaching the Builder’s Sunday School Class as she followed in the footsteps of her father-in-law, Marvin “Red” Barbee. Equally important to her was her love and devotion to her husband and family.

In addition to her husband of the home, survivors include two sons, Dexter R. Barbee, Jr. and wife Irene Barbee of Burlington and Gregory D. Scott and wife Susie Scott of Mebane; daughter, Tisha B. Mansfield and husband Brent Mansfield of Burlington; eight grandchildren, Dustin K. Barbee, Travis L. Barbee, Ben Scott, Paul Jollay, Stuart and Brad Hunter, Josie B. Mansfield and Nora B. Mansfield; three brothers, Ralph McIntyre of Elon, Howard McIntyre of Graham and Don McIntyre of Burlington; and sister, Linda Thomas of Elon.

Mrs. Barbee was preceded in death by a brother, Richard McIntyre and two sisters, Frances Covington and Kathlene Birchett.

The family will receive friends at the Rich & Thompson Funeral Service in Burlington on Saturday, October 14, 2017 from 5 until 7 p.m. At other times the family will be at the residence.

The funeral service will be conducted at Faith United Methodist Church on Sunday, October 15, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. by Rev. Lee Edwards. Burial will follow at Alamance Memorial Park.

Memorials may be made to Faith United Methodist Church, 1732 West Davis Street, Burlington, NC 27215 or Meals on Wheels of Alamance County, 411 West 5th Street, Ste. A, Burlington, NC 27215.
