James B. (Jimmy) Millner Jr.
James B. (Jimmy) Millner Jr., 66, of 713 Caswell Pines Drive, Blanch, N.C., passed away on Aug. 8, 2011, at Duke University Medical Center from complications after a double lung transplant.
He was born on November 7, 1944, to James B. Millner Sr., and Annie Davis Millner.
Mr. Millner was a long time resident of the Providence community and owned and operated Jim Millner Plumbing for over 40 years until retiring in 1998. On Nov. 7, 1964, he married his high school sweetheart, Linda Kaye Smith.
He was very active in the community and civic organizations,servingasPresidentof the Cobb Ruritan Club, Chairman of the Caswell Democratic Party, Past Master of the Caswell Brotherhood Lodge #11. He was also a charter member of the Amran Shrine Temple and was a member of the Clown Unit. He was a lifelong member of Providence Baptist Church. The mission that he held closest to his heart was his dedication to education. He served as a member of the Caswell County Board of Education for 23 years and devoted much time and effort to that service. In honor of that dedication and service, the James B. Millner Jr. Scholarship Endowment has been set up to allow more access to higher education for students of Caswell County Schools.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Kaye Smith Millner, of the home; one sister, Betty Millner Collie, of Semora; one daughter, Carolyn Brackin (Richie) of Blanch, one son, James B. (Trey) Millner III (Tonya), of Anderson; and four grandchildren, Parker and Mackenzie Brackin, and Mikayla and Cassidy Millner. He will also be missed by his devoted dog, Coco.
He was predeceased by both parents.
Funeral services will be held at Providence Baptist Church on Thursday, Aug. 11, 2011 at 2 p.m. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with Masonic rites. The family will receive friends at Providence Baptist Church onWednesday, Aug. 10, 2011 from 6:30 until 8:30 p.m., and also following the burial at the church. At other times the family will receive friends at the home, 713 Caswell Pines Drive, Blanch.
In lieu of flowers, the family asked that memorials be given to the James B. Millner Jr. Scholarship Endowment, P.O. Box 616, Yanceyville, N.C. 27379.
The family would also like to thank everyone for all the prayers and expressions of kindness over the past six months during his hospital stay.
