Harvey  Lee Tate  Sr.


    BURLINGTON — Harvey  Lee Tate  Sr., 75, of 1090 Union Ridge Road, died Monday, September 25, 2006 at Duke University Medical Center after seven weeks critical illness. He was the husband of Iris Sawyer Tate , and son of the late Emmitt "E.B." Boyd and Alvana Madren Tate . He was a U.S. Army veteran and served during the Korean Conflict. Harvey  retired from Burlington Industries after 28 years of service and was the owner and operator of Southern Caswell Auctioneers. He was a member of the National and North Carolina Auctioneers Associations, having served as President of the State Association. He was a member of Concord Christian Church. Harvey  was a member of the Southern Caswell Ruritan Club, serving as President and Zone Governor. Ruritan members will serve as honorary pallbearers.
    He is survived by his wife, Iris Sawyer Tate  of the home; daughter, Karen Tate  Gray and her husband, Will, of Burlington; son, H. Lee Tate  Jr. and his wife, Joellen, of Roxboro; one granddaughter, Jerri C. Tate ; sister and brother-in-law, Pauline and Ervin Stanfield of Burlington.
    The funeral service will be held Thursday, September 28, 2006 at 11 a.m. at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Rick Webster. Burial will follow at Concord Christian Church cemetery.
    The family will receive friends this evening from 5 to 7 at Lowe Funeral Home, and at other times at the home.
    Memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Alamance-Caswell, 914 Chapel Hill Road, Burlington, N.C. 27215 or to Concord Christian Church Choir Fund, 4904 Cherry Grove Road, Elon, N.C. 27244.
