Mrs. Erma Terrell Swift
BURLINGTON — Mrs. Erma Terrell Swift , 91, of 742 E. Haggard Ave., Elon, died at 12:35 p.m. Saturday, April 30, 2005 at Alamance Regional Medical Center after a brief illness.
Born in Caswell County, she was the daughter of the late Henry Edward Terrell and Lucy Simmons Terrell . She was married to Mr. Herman Lee Swift who survives. Mrs. Swift was a member of Woodmen of the World, helped with Meals on Wheels, was a former Hospital Auxiliary Volunteer and enjoyed crocheting baby afghans and donating them to family and friends. She was a member of First Christian United Church of Christ, Lila B. Sellars Sunday School Class and the Women’s Fellowship. She was retired from Holt Hosiery.
Survivors other than her husband of the home include daughters, Mrs. Vickie Hodge and husband, Barry, of Elon and Mrs. Becky Isley and husband, Tony, of Snow Camp; a son, Mr. Gene Swift and wife, Donna, of Elon; sisters, Mrs. Selma Simpson of Raleigh, Mrs. Leona Chandler of Yanceyville, Mrs. Lillie Walker, Mrs. Mary Manefee and Mrs. Virginia Terry, all of Burlington; a brother, Mr. Ben Terrell of Burlington; grandchildren, Nicole Hodge of Raleigh, Kara Marshall and husband, Jon, of Burlington, Jodi Isley and Eric Isley of Snow Camp, Tammy Shumate and husband, Jeff and Ken Swift , all of Greensboro, Jason Swift of New York City and Kim Gentle and husband, Joe, of Statesville; and great-grandchildren Tanner and Seth Marshall.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Mrs. Pearl Tate and brothers Preston Terrell and George Terrell .
The funeral will be held at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 3 at First Christian United Church of Christ by the Rev. Mark Nanney and the Rev. Everett Rumley. Burial will be in Alamance Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends at Rich & Thompson Mortuary in Burlington from 6 until 8 p.m. this evening. At other times they will be at the residence of the son, Gene Swift , 738 E. Haggard Ave., Elon.
