GIBSONVILLE – Raymond A. Zimmerman, 89, passed away Tuesday, April 10, 2018 at Liberty Commons Center following several months of failing health.
He was born November 1, 1928 in Guilford County to the late Lawrence W. and Lillie Apple Zimmerman and was married to the late Lucille “Coonie” Busick Zimmerman.

Raymond served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and retired from P. Lorillard in Greensboro after thirtytwo and a half years of service. He was a quiet man who was proud to see others succeed and get recognition. He enjoyed farming and growing vegetables to share with his neighbors and friends. He loved his community, his neighbors and his family.
He is survived by his daughters; Cindy Z. Jones and friend Mac Beard, Camille (Kent) Thaxton; grandchildren, Matthew (Pam) Thaxton, Cristin (Torrey) Hightower, Chris Jones and friend Sylvia Ryals, Jennifer (Robert) Whitehead; seven greatgrandchildren; a brother Worth (Sarah) Zimmerman and a host of beloved nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, parents and a brother Wade Zimmerman.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, April 15, 2018 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Phil Spry. Interment will follow in Alamance Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends 12:30 – 1:45 p.m. Sunday at Lowe Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc. prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that you share an encouraging word or act of kindness for your neighbor.
The family would like to say thank you to the staff of Hospice of Alamance-Caswell and Liberty Commons Center for their care of “Mr. Z”.
