March 22, 1947 ~ October 20, 2023 (age 76)
Charles Holt Barnwell, 76, of Graham passed away on Friday, October 20, 2023 at his residence.
A native of Alamance County, he was the husband of the late Faye Shoffner Barnwell and the son of Jule Carr Barnwell and Elizabeth Wade Barnwell, both deceased.
Charles was a proud veteran of the United States Navy, serving from 1966 to 1970. He was also a proud Eagle Scout. He worked as an accountant for many years and retired in 2012 from Acuity Lighting in Georgia. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Graham, where he served as a former treasurer. Charles enjoyed camping, traveling, woodworking, and spending time with his family and friends.
Charles was a wonderful husband, father, brother, uncle and friend to many and will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his daughter, Adrienne Barnwell Rice and her husband Raymond F. “Trey” Rice, III of Burlington; one sister, Judy C. Barnwell of Burlington; sister in law, Sue Barnwell of Burlington; brother in law, William Mosher of Maryland; numerous nieces and nephews; and his trusted canine companion, Mei.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Revonda Mosher; and a brother, Thomas Barnwell.
A memorial service will be held at the First United Methodist Church of Graham on Thursday, October 26, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. with the family receiving friends an hour prior to the service. At other times the family will be at the home of his daughter, Adrienne and Trey Rice, 822 Iseley School Rd. Burlington, NC 27217.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to ALCOVETS (Alamance County Veterans), 301-20 NE Court Square, Graham, NC 27253 or to Alzheimer’s Association Western North Carolina Chapter, 5171 Glenwood Ave Suite 101, Raleigh, NC 27612 or by phone 1 (800) 272-3900.
