Virgil Vance Barber
BURLINGTON — Virgil Vance Barber , 95, was born in Guilford County, N.C., where he lived until August 2004. He was a self-employed farmer, growing tobacco, produce and the necessary foods to support livestock. He sold tobacco in Burlington and Reidsville, N.C. and even after retirement, he enjoyed visiting the markets. Mr. Barber made much of the equipment used on the farm by hand. He enjoyed deer and turkey hunting, gospel music, and telling jokes and stories as he worked on the farm. He had a special interest in antique trucks, cars, and tractors. He was a member of Brown Wesleyan Church in Gibsonville.
Mr. Barber is survived by his wife of almost 73 years, Thelma Mayberry Barber ; one daughter, Amy Barber Whitesell of Gibsonville; and one granddaughter, Carla (James) Whitesell-Dahl of Gibsonville.
The funeral will be conducted at the Twin Lakes Chapel on Saturday, December 1, 2007 at 2 p.m. Burial will follow in Gibsonville City Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the Twin Lakes Chapel on Saturday from 11:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m.
