Jean McKinney Matherly
BURLINGTON — Jean McKinney Matherly, 72, went home to be with her beloved husband, son and countless other loved ones who went on before her on Saturday, Feb. 23, 2013, at the Hospice Home. She was born in Caswell County to the late Jessie Ruffus McKinney and the late Pearl Bryant McKinney and was married to the late Landon Franklin “Frank” Matherly, who died in August 2012.
Jean retired from Burlington Industries, and was a devoted and faithful member and the treasurer of Open Bible Baptist Church. She was an angel on earth and everyone who entered her home left knowing that they were loved and had an uplifted feeling and never left hungry.
She is survived by her son, Landon Harold Matherly; grandchildren, Landon (Jennifer) Matherly, Tabitha (Ernie) Santoyo-Garcia, Jessi Matherly and Kody Matherly; great-grandchildren, Destiny, Rosie, Xander, Bentley, Frankie and Mario; daughters-in-law, Joan Matherly and Tammy Matherly; brothers, Willard (Mary Jean) McKinney, Donnie McKinney and Roy (Starr) McKinney; sisters, Lois (Thurman) Oakley, Annie Ruth Perry and Ruby Talley; special friends, Mozelle McKinney and Kathleen Jurkowich; numerous beloved nieces, nephews and in-laws. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, her loving son, Franklin Lynn Matherly; sister, Luna Mae Thomas; brothers, Robert McKinney, James McKinney and Jessie McKinney.
The funeral service will be held at 4:00 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2013, at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Pastor Steve Pruitt. The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 3:45 p.m. prior to the service. The entombment will follow in Alamance Memorial Park Mausoleum. At other times the family will be at the home.
The family would like to extend a very warm thank you to the staff at Alamance Regional Medical Center and the Hospice Home staff of Alamance-Caswell for all the wonderful care and love they have shown to Jean and the family.
