ASHEBORO — James Howard Simpson, age 87, of 579 N. Oakdale St., Asheboro died Tuesday, September 22, 2009 at his home.
Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, September 25, 2009 at 2 p.m. at the Pugh Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Billy R. Self officiating. Burial will follow in Randolph Memorial Park.
Mr. Simpson was born on June 23, 1922 in Alamance County, N.C. to Joseph William Arthur Simpson and Myrtle Mae Kernodle Simpson. He began working for Barnwell Brothers at the age of 17 and in 1980 retired from Burlington Industries as a truck driver. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Vera Gillette Terrell Simpson, his parents, his brother, William Roland Simpson, and his sister, Maggie Delia Cook. James loved working in his garden.
He is survived by his daughter, Dorothy Ray and her husband Don of Graham, N.C.; son, Raleigh Simpson and his wife Pat of Graham, N.C.; daughter, Faye Webster and her husband Jack of Asheboro, N.C.; son, Jay Simpson and his wife Donna of Asheboro, N.C.; son, Tommy Simpson and his wife JoAnne of Asheboro, N.C.; daughter, Belinda Hayes and her husband Frank of Asheboro, N.C.; 20 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren;
sister, Mary Elizabeth Ward; brother, Joseph Simpson; and sister, Agnus S. Lilly.
The family will receive friends on Friday, September 25, 2009 from 12 until 2 p.m. at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro, N.C.

ASHEBORO - Vera Gillette Terrell Simpson, age 88, of 579 N. Oakdale St., Asheboro, died Friday, September 4, 2009, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem.
Vera was a native of Alamance County, and a member of Calvary Baptist Church. She was a loving wife and mother. Mrs. Simpson enjoyed canning, cooking and loved spending time with her grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by brothers, Howell Terrell, James Terrell, and Hanson Terrell; sisters, Gladys Brown and Lucille Ward.
