ASHEBORO - Vera Gillette Terrell Simpson, age 88, of 579 N. Oakdale St., Asheboro, died Friday, September 4, 2009, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem.
Vera was a native of Alamance County, and a member of Calvary Baptist Church. She was a loving wife and mother. Mrs. Simpson enjoyed canning, cooking and loved spending time with her grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by brothers, Howell Terrell, James Terrell, and Hanson Terrell; sisters, Gladys Brown and Lucille Ward.
She is survived by her husband of 69 years, James Howard Simpson of the home; daughter, Dorothy and husband, Don Ray, of Graham, NC, daughter, Faye and husband, Jack Webster, of Asheboro, NC, daughter, Belinda and husband, Frank Hayes, of Asheboro, NC; son, Raleigh and wife, Pat Simpson, of Graham, NC, son, Jay and wife, Donna Simpson, of Asheboro, NC, son, Tommy and wife, JoAnne Simpson, of Asheboro, NC; 20 grandchildren; 35 great grandchildren; and 6 great-great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, September 9, 2009, from noon-2:00 p.m. at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue in Asheboro.
The funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. in the Pugh Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Billy R. Self officiating. Burial will follow at Randolph Memorial Park.
