Walter Shambley

BURLINGTON — Mr. Walter Lee Shambley, 75, of 1431 Railroad St., died at 5:22 a.m. Saturday, April 10, 1999, at Alamance Regional Medical Center after one year of failing health, one week critical. A native of Alamance County, he was the husband of Mrs.. Bernice Isley Shambley, who survives, and the son of Mr. Alfred Shambley and Mrs.. Pearl Bayliff Shambley, both deceased.

He retired from Burlington Industries. He attended Bethel Baptist Church. Survivors other than his wife of the home include three daughters, Mrs.. Judy Hensley of Graham, Mrs.. Barbara Warren of Burlington and Mrs.. Leslie Carol East of Graham; four sons, Mr. Kenny Shambley, Mr. Bobby Shambley, Mr. Steve Shambley and Mr. Mitch Shambley, all of Burlington; a sister, Mrs.. Elsie Turner of Graham; two brothers, Mr. Joe Shambley and Mr. Gordon Shambley, both of Burling-ton; 13 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Mr. Walter Lee Shambley Jr..; a sister, Ms. Peggy Rooney; and four brothers, Mr. Jasper “Red” Shambley, Mr. Alfred Shambley Jr.., Mr. Wilbert Shambley and Mr. Paul Shambley.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Bethel Baptist Church by the Rev. David Jackson, pastor.

Burial will be in Bellemont United Methodist Church Cemetery.

The family will be at McClure Funeral Home in Graham from 6 to 8 Monday evening and at other times at the home.
