LUELLA BROWN MAY

Luella Brown May, second daughter of Thomas N. and Mary Kathryn Brown, was born in Lucas county near Chariton on Nov. 28, 1881, and departed this life at the Gardner Nursing Home Saturday, June 6, 1959, at the age of 77 years, six months and nine days. She had been in ill health for several months.

She spent her entire life in Lucas county with the exception of five years in Henderson, Iowa.

She was united in marriage to Charles Thomas May, May 10, 1903 at Chariton. To this union five children were born: Otho B. of Seattle, Wash., Lavone Pierschbacher of Chariton and Ronald D. of Hardy. Two sons passed away in infancy; Waldo Dwaine and Clell Thomas.

Besides her husband and three children she is survived by two sisters, Oma Schwartz of Chariton and Grace Shelton of Cotter, Ark., three brothers, Jim, Oran and Arthur Brown, all of Chariton; seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends who will mourn her passing. She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, two brothers and one great-grandson.

She united with the Oxford Methodist church at an early age. She was a devoted and loving wife and mother.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, June 10, at 1:30 p.m., at the Miley Chapel with the Rev. Warrene Hile in charge. Burial was at Oxford cemetery.
