Mark Dwayne Robertson

November 4, 1947 ~ July 27, 2022 (age 74)

Mr. Mark Robertson, 74, of Elon passed away at Alamance Regional Medical Center on Wednesday, July 27, 2022.

A native of Alamance County, he was the husband of Mary Ellen Barts Robertson, who survives and the son of John W. Robertson, Jr. and Hazel Morton Robertson, both deceased.

Mark was a graduate of Western Alamance High School. He was an insurance agent for Farm Bureau for 31 years. After his retirement, he also worked with Alamance Glass. He was also a football official for 43 years and basketball official for 35 years. During his many years as an official, he officiated three State Championship Football Games; served as Director and Executive Secretary of Assignments for the Burlington Football Association and Past President of the North State Football Association; was an ACC/Duke Football official and clock operator for Duke University; became a NCHSAA Referee; and was the sports broadcaster for WBAG.

Mark was a member of Berea Christian Church where he served as Trustee, Deacon, and Chairman of the Board of Deacons. He was also a member of the Gibsonville Masonic Lodge. Mark served on the Board of Directors of the Home Owners Association with Ocean Dunes in Myrtle Beach, SC.

In addition to his wife of their home, survivors include two sons, Chad Robertson and wife Kris of Buford, GA and Brad Robertson and wife Erin of Raleigh, NC; four grandchildren, Hannah, Cameron, Avery, and Bailey Robertson; brother, David Robertson; sisters-in-law, Margaret Minor, Catherine Campbell and husband Jimmy, and Frances Travis Barts; brother-in-law, C. G. Byrd, Jr.; numerous nieces and nephews; and his canine companion, Penny.

The funeral service will be conducted at the Rich & Thompson Chapel in Burlington on Sunday, July 31, 2022 at 3:00 p.m. by Rev. Jeff Smith with the family receiving friends from 1:00 until 3:00 p.m. prior to the service. Burial will follow at Berea Christian Church Cemetery with Masonic graveside rites.
