Kenneth “Ken” Avery Rivers, 59, of Burlington, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, August 23, 2020.
He was the husband of 26 years to the late Linda Simpson Rivers who died in 2018.
Ken was an educator, teaching at both private and public schools. He was a 1979 graduate of Graham High School,1983 graduate of Atlantic Christian College and he received his MBA in 1987 from Elon University. He was a member of Glen Hope Baptist Church where he taught Sunday School, served as a deacon and usher. Ken also helped with the Awana ministry at Glen Hope following in the footsteps of his wife. Ken had a heart for children and the sharing the gospel. Ken was unselfish with his time and talents and will be greatly missed by all who crossed his path.
Survivors include his father, Haywood Ralph Rivers, Sr. of Burlington; siblings, Rodney Rivers, Ralph Rivers, Stephanie Carter, Sheila and Michael Garza; uncle, Kenneth Rivers and wife, Tina; brothers-in-law Ronald and Donald Simpson and father-in-law, Carl Simpson; aunt, Sandra Allred and husband, Kenneth and special cousins, Sharon Jennings and husband, Marcus, Dee Buritt and husband, Perry and Barbara Dixon.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Linda Simpson Rivers, his mother, Janet Taylor Graza and his step mom, Renee Rivers; paternal grandparents, Rev. Ralph Rivers and Alease Rivers.
The family will be holding a private service. The body will be available for viewing from 1-5pm on Thursday, August 27, 2020 at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory. You may view the memorial service after 5:00 PM on Friday, August 28, 2020 on the funeral home website.
