Doris Whitesell Greeson


    BURLINGTON — Mrs. Doris Whitesell Greeson, 89, of 1900 South N.C. Hwy. 61, Burlington, died at Twin Lakes Center on Tuesday, May 13, 2008 at 7 p.m.
    A native of Guilford County, she was the wife of the late Paul Fide Greeson and the daughter of Ernest David Whitesell and Flossie Gerringer Whitesell, both deceased. She was a member of Mt. Hope United Church of Christ where she was a member of the Whiteners Bible Class and a former member of the church choir and the Women’s Circle.
    Survivors include two daughters, Sylvia G. Gilliam and husband, Lloyd of Cary and Shirley G. Clapp and husband, Floyd of Burlington; three granddaughters, Tammy Wright and husband, Bobby, Cindy Jones and husband, Scott and Sharon Kauffman and husband, Sam; two grandsons, Scotty Clapp and wife, Angie and Kem Clapp and fiancé, Von Shoffner; eight great-grandchildren, Ashlyn and Ava Jones, Alex, Jake and Isaac Kauffman, Hudson and James Clapp and Chloe Wright; three sisters, Laura Clapp of Burlington, Mildred Shoffner and husband, Richard of Burlington and Hilda Baites of Greensboro; one brother, Ernest D. Whitesell Jr. and wife, Martha of Whitsett; and a sister-in-law, Helen Whitesell of Whitsett.
    She was preceded in death by a brother, Howard Whitesell.
    The funeral will be conducted at Mt. Hope United Church of Christ on Friday, May 16, 2008, at 2 p.m. by Rev. Lloyd Spencer. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the service.
    The family will receive friends at the Rich & Thompson Funeral and Cremation Service in Burlington on Thursday, May 15, from 6 until 8 p.m. At other times they will be at the former homeplace, 7165 Shoe Road, Burlington, N.C.
    Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, Western Carolina Chapter, 3800 Shamrock Drive, Charlotte, N.C. 28215-3220 or to the American Cancer Society, 4-A Oak Branch Drive, Greensboro, N.C. 27407.
