Sylvia Greeson Gilliam, 85, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 14, 2023 at Twin Lakes Coble Creek Healthcare surrounded by her loving family and friends.

Sylvia was born on August 21, 1937 in Alamance County to the late Paul Fide Greeson and Doris Whitesell Greeson and was married for over 65 years to Lloyd Gilliam, who survives. 

She is also survived by her daughters; Cynthia Ann Jones and husband, Scott, Sharon Lynn Kaufman and husband Samuel, five grandchildren; Ashlyn Jones, Ava Jones, Jacob Kaufman, Alexis Kaufman and Isaac Kaufman and one sister; Shirley Greeson Clapp. 

She was preceded in death by; her parents; Paul and Doris Greeson.

For many years she worked in retail selling women’s apparel, but her passion was family and church.  She loved her children and devoted much time spoiling her grandchildren.  A member of church all her life, she loved playing bridge with her White Plains Methodist Church group while living in Cary, NC.  In 2009 the family returned to Burlington, NC and joined Mt. Hope Church, the church she and her husband were married in 1958.  She loved her many friends at Mt. Hope Church. 

The funeral to celebrate Sylvia’s life will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, August 16th at Mt. Hope United Church of Christ in Whitsett by Reverend Kristin Gerner Vaughn with the burial to follow in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 10:15 – 10:45 prior to the service.
