John Donald Somers, Sr., 89, a resident of Burlington passed away on November17, 2024 at White Oak Manor.
John was born in Alamance County on May 24, 1935, son of the late Ernest Gervest Somers and Lecy Bell Wagoner Somers.
He was employed as a surveyor and served in the US Coast Guard Auxiliary.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife Helen Anderson Somers, his second wife Ramona Perry Somers, his daughter Robin Somers Wicker, grandson William Henry Vines, III, brothers Joseph Somers, Richard Somers, Boyd Somers, Sr., Daniel Somers and Calvin Somers, and his sisters, Betty McIntyre and Virginia Jones.
Surviving is his wife Shirley Reaves Somers; children Donna Somers Vines (Henry) and John D. “Don” Somers, Jr. (Tracy) four grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; four stepchildren; seven step grandchildren and fifteen step great grandchildren; and his sister Gladys Lancaster.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2 pm on Friday at Riverdale Baptist Church with Pastor Johnathan Graves officiating.
