Ernest Jackson Harviel
October 16, 1950 ~ February 5, 2024 (age 73)

Ernest Jackson Harviel passed away surrounded by his family on February 5th, 2024, at Peak Resources in Graham, after several months of declining health.

He was the son of the late Jay C. and Elizabeth Duncan Harviel. He is preceded in death by his brother, Dr. J. Duncan Harviel. Ernie is also preceded in death by his wife of over 40 years and the mother to his girls, Jolete Fuquay Harviel.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy Long, and Nancy’s daughters Caroline Long and Charlotte Long Bryant (Charles) and Nancy’s granddaughter Beatrice Bryant.

Ernie leaves behind his daughters, Jennifer Jolete Harviel McGill and her husband Jim, and Carrie Elizabeth Harviel Rawl and her husband Les. Ernie “Papa” will be greatly missed by his four grandchildren; Andrew Harviel McGill, George Duncan Rawl, Margaret Elizabeth Rawl and Brandt Jackson Rawl. He also leaves behind his step-grandchildren Jack McGill and Kate McGill. And he will be missed by his nieces Jennifer Cyrnak and Claire Buck (Matt) and his great nieces Grace Gilroy, Beatrix Buck and Tabitha Buck.

The funeral will be held Thursday at 2pm at First Reformed United Church of Christ in Burlington with the Reverand Grace McMullen officiating, graveside service immediately following at Pine Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held prior to the funeral beginning at 1pm in the fellowship hall of First Reformed UCC.
