BURLINGTON — Ursula Elizabeth (Lib) Hoffman Denny Pleasant, 84, died Sunday, April 19, 2015, at Twin Lakes Memory Care after several years of decline with Alzheimer’s disease.
Lib was born November 21, 1930, to Arthur G. and Katie Evelena Faucette Hoffman, both deceased. She was married to Herman
E. Denny until his death in 1974, and later to Thomas B. Pleasant, deceased in 2005. Lib has two children: Clyde
A. Denny, married to Leigh Stewart Denny; and Margaret E. Denny, married to James K. Pearson. She has four grandchildren: Nathaniel Stewart Denny of Washington, D.C.; Aaron Michael Denny of Chapel Hill, N.C.; Joel Hoffman Denny of Beaufort, N.C.; Kathryn (Katy) Elizabeth Boyer, a student at Randolph College in Lynchburg, Virginia; and three step-children, Cynthia P. Walker (Kyle), Jack Pleasant (Sandy), and Denise Pleasant Joines.
Lib earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music from Elon College in 1952 and a Masters of Education degree from Duke University in 1961. She worked as an educator with the Alamance-Burlington School System, while also serving as a church organist and choir director at several area churches, including Church of the Holy Comforter, Davis Street United Methodist Church, St. Mark’s Church, and Frieden’s Lutheran Church. She was a member and former president of the Burlington Music Club, and a member of North Carolina Chapters of Phi Delta Kappa and Delta Kappa Gamma International, both professional organizations for educators. After retiring from teaching, Lib enjoyed participating as a member of the Battle of Alamance Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution.
A Memorial Service will be conducted at Davis Street United Methodist Church by the Reverend Jimmy Weaver at 11a.m. Saturday, May 16. The family will receive friends in the Fellowship Hall following the service.
The family wishes to offer their most sincere gratitude to the nurses and staff of Twin Lakes Memory Care for providing such wonderful and compassionate care for Lib over the last seven years.
Memorials may be made to Davis Street United Methodist Church, 606 East Davis Street, Burlington, NC, or to the Alzheimer’s Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave., Fl. 17, Chicago, IL 60601.
