Mr. Thomas  Burns Pleasant 
    BURLINGTON — Mr. Thomas  Burns Pleasant , 84, of 213 Green Street, Elon, died Friday, July 15, 2005 at Edgewood Place in Burlington.
    A native of Person County, he was the son of the late Andrew Jackson Pleasant  and the late Minnie Tatum Pleasant . He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mrs. Harriet Yarbrough Pleasant .
    A graduate of Person County High School, Mr. Pleasant  was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Navy and was a member of the American Legion. He retired from Western Electric after 30 years of service as a machinist. Mr. Pleasant  was also a member of Davis Street United Methodist Church, where he served as Scout Leader of Troop 29 for 35 years.
    Mr. Pleasant  enjoyed hunting, fishing and was an avid woodworker. He also loved gardening and would generously share the fruits of his harvest with others.
    He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Elizabeth Hoffman Denny Pleasant  of the home; daughters, Mrs. Cynthia P. Walker and her husband, Kyle, of Burlington, Mrs. Denise P. Joines and William Joines, of Burlington; son, Mr. Jack Pleasant  and his wife, Sandy, of Roxboro; sister, Mrs. Satira Warren of Prospect Hill; brothers, Mr. Arch Pleasant  and Mr. Henry N. Pleasant  Sr., both of Hurdle Mills; stepdaughter, Mrs. Margaret Clemmer of Elon; stepson, the Rev. Clyde Denny, of Rocky Mount; seven grandchildren; six stepgrandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
    A funeral service will be held Sunday, July 17, 2005 at 3:00 p.m. at Davis Street United Methodist Church. Officiating will be the Rev. Jerry Dodson. Burial will be in Alamance Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the Rich and Thompson Mortuary in Burlington, today, July 16, 2005 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m., and at other times they will be at the residence.
