Wilford Thurman "W.T." Gaither, Jr. passed away at Greenhaven Health & Rehabilitation in Greensboro, NC on January 28, 2025, at age 83.
He had been under Hospice care at home in Elon, NC and we are grateful that AuthoraCare was able to continue caring for him when he moved to Greenhaven.
W.T. was born January 19, 1942, in Harmony, NC to Stella & Wilford Gaither, Sr. (both deceased).
He was preceded in death by his sister Rita Stutts (Charlotte, NC) and is survived by sisters Sue Lineberry (Greensboro, NC), Linda Brown (Charlotte, NC) and Vivian Parker (Durham, NC).
After graduating from Ragsdale High School (Jamestown, NC) in 1960, W.T. served honorably for four years in the United States Navy.
He studied engineering, specializing in heavy machinery which led to a career supervising & maintaining complex equipment at multiple textile plants.
W.T. married Jean Kernodle of Burlington, NC in 1967. They had two children Brian & Michelle. They built a home in Burlington, NC, adding over the years multiple cats, dogs and even goats.
W.T. enjoyed boating, doing home improvement, crossword puzzles, watching racing and ACC basketball, especially when Duke was playing.
W.T. was preceded in death by his son Charles Brian Gaither (Graham, NC) and is survived by his wife of 57 years, Jean Kernodle Gaither (Elon, NC), his daughter Michelle Gaither Stewart, her husband Tony Stewart (High Point, NC) and his bother-in-law Wally Kernodle (Burlington, NC).
The family requests that memorial gifts be made to the General Hospice Services Program of AuthoraCare Collective, 2500 Summit Avenue, Greensboro, NC 27405.
