Mrs. Josie Loy Huey dead at 101
ELON — Mrs. Josie Loy Huey, age 101, passed away Saturday, December 13, 2008 at Liberty Commons.
A native of Alamance County, she was the wife of the late Charlie Chester Huey and daughter of the late William Ervin and Bettie Westmoreland Loy. She was a member of Elon Community Church and Circle #1 of the church. She and her husband, Chester, operated Huey’s Barbecue for many years. After Chester’s death she continued the tradition until her retirement. During her restaurant years, she gave many young men a job and a place to live. Most of these were Elon College students. She and her children, Elna and Paul, donated Elon’s first athletic scholarship as memorial to her late husband, Chester Huey.
Survivors include her son, Paul Herman Huey of the home; grandchildren, Martha Loy Huey "Marlo" Paterson and husband Mark of Atlanta, GA and Charlie Chester "Chet" Huey, II of Tuscaloosa, AL; brothers, W.E. "Bill" Loy and F. Ervin Loy both of Elon and Dewey Leige Loy of Paulsboro, N.J. She was preceded in death by her husband Chester Huey; Parents, daughter Elna Huey; brothers, Howard Loy, Eugene Loy, Freeman Loy, Martin Leon Loy, Durward Loy and Keith B. Loy; sisters, Janice L. Newman, Ruth B. Loy and Leola C. Loy.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday, December 16, 2008 in the Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Daniel H. Kuhn, Jr. Interment will follow in Magnolia Cemetery, Elon. Mrs. Huey will remain at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory through the funeral service. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6-8 pm Monday and at other times the home.
