Death Takes C. C. Huey Here Today
C. Chester Huey, 60, of Rt. 1, Eton College, co-owner and operator of Huey's Steak House and Huey's Barbecue Restaurant here, died this morning at 8:20 o'clock at his home. He had been in declining health for several years and had been critically ill for four months.
A native of Hazelhurst, Ga., Mr. Huey was the son of the late Charlie E. and Augusta McManus Huey. He was the husband of Mrs. Josie Loy Hue of the home, who survives, and had been a resident of Alamance County for the past 40 years.
From 1944 to 1955 he operated a grocery store in the Glen Raven area, and in 1955 he and his brother, Ralph Huey, began their restaurant chain with Huey's Barbecue Restaurant in Glen Raven.
He was a member of Elon College Community church; and the Elon College Exchange Club. He was one of the most active boosters of Elon College's athletic program.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include one daughter. Miss Elna Doris Huey of Gibsonville; one son, Paul H. Huey of Rt. 1, Elon College; three sisters, Mrs. Clarence Morton of Gibsonville, Mrs. David Yancey of Rt. 1, Mebane and Mrs. Lillian Loy of Rt. 4, Burlington; seven brothers, Virgil O. Huey of Rt. 4, Burlington, George C. Huey of Rt. 1, Elon College, Frank Huey of Rt. 1, Mebane, Carl Huey of Mebane, Alton Huey of Rt. 1, Elon College and Ralph Huey of Rt. 3, Graham.
Final rites will be held Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at Elon College Community Church. The service will be conducted by the Rev. Thomas R. Hamilton, pastor, and the Rev. Grant Johnson, pastor of Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church. Burial will be in Magnolia Cemetery Elon College.
The body will remain at Rich and Thompson Mortuary in Burlington until taken to the church to lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service. Visitation will begin Tuesday at noon, and the family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday night from 7 to 9 o'clock.
