Mrs. Viola Payne
Mrs. Viola Mclntyre Sutton Payne, 74, of 2202 1/2 W. Webb Ave. died suddenly Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at her home following five years of declining health.
A native of Alamance County, Mrs. Payne was the daughter of the late Robert and Cornelia Baulding Mclntyre. She was the wife of William E. Payne of the home, who survives, and was a member of Faith Methodist Church. Mrs. Payne formerly was married to Lawrence Sutton, who died in 1935. Prior to her retirement, she was employed by Glen Raven Mills.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include two stepdaughters, Mrs. Gladys Hedgepeth and Mrs. Ola Stone, both of Greensboro; two stepsons, A. J. Sutton of Stuart, Fla., and George Sutton of Baltimore, Md.; one sister, Mrs. Rosie Tickle of Altamahaw; one brother, George McIntyre of Altamahaw; and 10 stepgrandchildren.
Final rites will be held Tuesday afternoon at 4 o'clock at Faith Methodist Church. The Rev. George Johnson, pastor, will conduct the service. Burial will be in Bethlehem United Church of Christ cemetery.
The body will remain at Lowe Funeral Home until taken to the church to lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service. The family will recieve friends at the funeral home tonight from 7 to 9 o'clock. 467
